Hispanic/Latino Advisory Committee Strategic Plan

HLAC Key Objectives:

Goal 1: To increase the number of Hispanic/Latino volunteer advocates who are bilingual (English/Spanish) consistent with the percentage of Latinos at those levels.

Action Steps

  1. Recruitment campaign utilizing:
    1. PSA
    2. Television
    3. Radio
    4. Newspapers
    5. Billboards
    6. National Hispanic magazines
    7. Websites
    8. Media Materials
    9. And other ways

     
  2. Create news stories of Hispanic/Latino Children paired with Advocates.

     
  3. Solicit members of Hispanic/Latino organizations, groups or individuals to become members, staff or board members.

     
  4. Highlight the work of the Hispanic/Latino Advisory Committee by publishing the strategic plan in CASA Connection, with an emphasis on recruitment of Hispanic/Latino members.

     
  5. Gather information from other organizations about successful Hispanic/Latino recruitment efforts.

     
  6. Train state and local staff on recruitment campaign development.

Goal 2: To develop leadership and increase the number of Hispanic/Latino staff at the local, state, and National levels consistent with the percentage of Hispanic/Latinos in those communities.

Action Steps

  1. Provide incentives through the National CASA grants program for local and state recruitment

     
  2. Develop a national leadership training program

     
  3. Support Hispanic/Latinos to participate in training programs

Goal 3: To develop leadership and increase the number of Hispanic/Latino board members at the local, sate, and national levels consistent with the percentage of Hispanic/Latinos in those communities.

Action Steps

  1. Recruit Hispanic/Latino individuals for board memberships

     
  2. Actively support the nominations of Hispanic/Latino individuals for board membership

Goal 4: To increase public awareness and education about Hispanic/Latino children and family issues at the local, state, and national levels.

Action Steps

  1. Identify resources for families that are culturally sensitive, appropriate and effective.

     
  2. Promote the education of Hispanic/Latino families about the emotional and legal consequences of child abuse.

     
  3. Provide input and/or suggestions for National CASA public relations materials.

     
  4. Provide Spanish language materials.

Goal 5: To secure funding to implement the Hispanic/Latino Advisory Committee strategic plan.

Action Steps

  1. Support National CASA Hispanic/Latino Advisory Committee planning activity

     
  2. Create a budget for the strategic Plan

     
  3. Identify prospective funding sources for the strategic plan

     
  4. Continue funding of National CASA Hispanic/Latino Advisory Committee activities at minimum of 2002 level

     
  5. Secure corporate partnership/sponsorship for recruitment and public awareness campaigns
