For those programs that are networked, occasionally one of your workstations may lose the link to the Comet data file. If you are not seeing any data when you open Comet, you could have possibly lost the link to your data. If you see a "The Required file 'CometDBV4' could not be found" message when you open Comet, most likely you have lost the link to the main data file. One reason for losing a link could be that the computer to which everyone is linked may have been shut down while someone was in Comet.  Press OK and proceed with instructions.

Instructions for re-linking Comet to your CometDBV4.mdb (data) file:

  1. Open CometV4.mde on the workstation. On the Comet Main Menu click the Change Path button. The Find new location of CometDBV4.mdb window is displayed.

  2. Use the drop-down button on the Look in box and/or the button to the right of the Look in box ("Up One level" button) to browse to the CometDBV4.mdb data file that is stored on the server (possible in Comet Shared Data folder). Make sure that it is the file that everyone shares.

  3. Finding the shared data file can be the most difficult part of this exercise. You may want to look at the “Database File” on the Comet Main Menu on a computer that did not lose its link so that you can see the path to the shared data file. Or contact the Network administrator that setup the location of the data file.

  4. Click on the CometDBV4.mdb file in the server folder and click Open.

  5. The Database Main Menu will show at the bottom the linking process progress.  Once links are complete a message will display:
"All Tables were linked successfully, Close and reopen Comet reopen Comet to complete changing path " when the database has been re-linked. Click OK.

  6. Click the CLOSE COMET button to close Comet and then re-open Comet to refresh the database file path. You should see the new database file path on the Comet Main Menu showing the path to the server.

If you are having difficulty re-linking Comet, contact Comet Technical Support for directions.
