Although Comet comes with a number of reports already built in, it would be impossible to provide reports to fit every program's needs. If you are familiar with Microsoft Access you can use the Comet ToolsV4 file to build your own customized queries and reports based on your Comet data. We highly recommend that anyone who wants to build queries and reports take a beginner and intermediate Microsoft Access class to fully leverage the potential in MS Access and Comet Tools. Comet Technical Support can provide assistance in building customized queries to pull data through Comet Tools. However, any changes made in the data displayed in queries in Comet Tools will affect the data in the data file. If you delete data displayed in queries in Comet ToolsV4, that data will be gone from Comet and is not recoverable!

It is possible to “share” queries and reports created by other Comet users. A query created
by someone else can be imported into Comet Tools. After importing a new query into Comet
Tools, you can open the query and you will see a display of the data in your Comet data file.

Before you are able to import the new query into Comet Tools, you will need to save the file
with the new query into a convenient location on the C: drive of your computer (the desktop
or the CometV4 folder both work well). After you have saved the file with the new query to
your computer you can import the query into Comet Tools.

To import a query into Comet Tools:

  1. Open the database (Comet Tools) into which you want to copy the query (destination database).

  2. From the tool bar at the top of the screen select File/Get External Data/Import.

  3. In the Import window use the Look In box to browse to the directory ( for example, desktop or CometV4  folder) that stores the database from which you want to copy the queries (source database).

  4. Select the database (e-mailed database or other source database).

  5. Select the queries you want to copy by selecting queries tab and then clicking once on each query to highlight, or use the Select All button to highlight all the queries. To copy a report or form in addition to queries, first select the report or form tab and then highlight the reports/forms.

  6. Click OK to import the selected queries/forms/reports.

  7. You can now view the query or report.
