New In Comet Version 4?
The Comet software application uses two primary files. The first file,
CometDBV4.mdb, is the data file which stores all the information entered into
Comet. The second file,
COMETv4.mde, is the user-interface file. This file contains the menus and screens that are visible when you are using Comet and links to the data file so that you can enter data.
Comet Version 4 involves changes to the CometDB.mdb
(data file in 3.910) file. Version 4 also includes changes in the user-interface file, COMET.mde.
The major changes in Version 4 fall into
six categories:
- Placements
Version 4 has separate placements from the Hearing Information section.
You do not have to enter a petition and a hearings in order to place a
child in a facility.
- Case Supervisors
Version 4 has new direct relationship between the child and the
CASA program Case Supervisor.
- Improved Navigation
Version 4 includes additional navigation buttons such as report menu button on the
group information screen in that takes you to the report section on a
particular group and back to the group information.
- Data Maintenance Checking
New feature allows the Comet V4 Users to check for missing or
inconsistent data with the COMET software.

Details about the navigation and the added features in
Version 4 includes many new features as requested by Comet users. Comet now includes features such as
search menu for volunteers and search menu for Facility Placements.
- Additional Report Options
Description of new and modified
reports (Zip file, Click on link and choose SAVE)
Comet V4 has new and modified reports including child demographics
based on Zip and County for children. All reports in
Comet now include a "Print to MsWord" Setup button that allows you to
export report to Microsoft Word or Excel.
Changes to List Maintenance and Comet Tools
Comet V4 also includes added Lookup Tables in the List Maintenance section. Current
Comet users who are upgrading can view the List Maintenance Modifications.
Comet 4.00 also includes revised CometV4 Tools, that will
help current COMET users with modifications to queries they may have
developed in earlier versions of Comet. Current
Comet users who are upgrading can also download the revised
queries and reports from the Query Library and import the queries into
Comet Tools.
