National CASA Association
Criteria for Members of the Board of Directors Qualifications

I. General:
A. All candidates for Board positions must be individual members of the Association in good standing.

B. All candidates for Board positions must not have acted in any manner deemed by the Nominations Committee to potentially jeopardize the interests, the integrity, or the reputation of the National CASA Association.

C. All candidates for Board positions must be committed to cultural competence and NCASAA's policy of diversification.

II. Executive Committee:
A.. All candidates for the position of President or Vice President must have served on the NCASAA Board of Directors for at least one year.

B. All candidates for the position of Secretary and Treasurer must have served on the NCASAA Board of Directors, or a Standing Committee for at least one year.

C. All candidates for the position of Treasurer must have had a demonstrated understanding of fiscal operations and/or basic accounting principles

III. At-large Representatives:
A. All candidates for At-large Representative positions must demonstrate a knowledge of the Association and/or court appointed special advocacy through one or more of the following ways and at least three of five At-large members must qualify through number 3.

  1. Service on the Association's Board of Directors;
  2. Service on one of the Association's standing or ad hoc committees;
  3. Service with a member program, either as staff, Board member or volunteer, for not less than two years;
  4. Service to one's state, county or local juvenile justice/family court system as a judge, attorney or other child welfare system personnel for not less than three years; or
  5. Other noteworthy service that demonstrates a full understanding of the Association's mission.


IV. Appointed Members:
A. All candidates for Appointed Member positions must have a demonstrated commitment to advocating on behalf of abused and neglected children in one or more of the following ways:

1. Service on the Association's Board of Directors; or one of its standing committees, ad hoc committees, or task forces; or have had equivalent national experience;

2. Service with a member program, either as staff, Board member or volunteer, for not less than two years;

3. Service to one's state, county or local juvenile justice/family court system as a judge, attorney or other child welfare system personnel for not less than three years;

4. Experience working with federal agencies and/or legislators on issues relating to child advocacy;

5. Experience working with major corporations and/or foundations on issues related to fund raising for non-profit organizations; or

6. Possesses expertise in a field of endeavor that is beneficial in achieving the objectives of the Association and has a full understanding of the Association's mission.
