Judges Value CASA
Volunteers But Need More of Them (11/05) |
|
A recent
survey
shows that judges find the work of CASA/GAL
volunteers to be high quality, beneficial to
judicial decision-making and beneficial to the
children and families served. But more
volunteers are needed. |

National CASA Consumer Satisfaction Survey (9/03) |
|
|
University of Kentucky researcher, Dr. Pat
Litzelfelner, recently completed a consumer satisfaction survey which included
over 700 respondents. 23 CASA programs participated. The survey examined the
level of satisfaction that parents, judges, child protection workers, child
protection supervisors, and attorneys have with CASA/GAL volunteers.
The results of this study demonstrate very positive
findings for volunteer CASA/GAL programs! Questions were both scaled and
“open-ended” and reflected a high level of satisfaction with the work of CASA
volunteers.
On a 4 point scale, questions relating to satisfaction
with CASA volunteers and their role in the child welfare system were
consistently rated high with responses from 2.7 – 3.7 points. (As the
report notes: A mean score between 3.0 and 4.0 would be considered excellent
for CASA programs whereas between 2.5 and 3.0 would be considered positive and
a mean score below 2.5 might provide the program with areas on which to
improve.)
Open ended question were grouped into themes by the
researcher, with a composite narrative to describe trends in these thematic
groups.
